The Value of Shock, Presenters and the Sanitization of Chaos Magic

Even in occult circles, even in Chaos circles, the process of magic has seemingly become more sanitized and safe. The average Wiccan out in the community understands the basics of Chaos magic in many areas and incorporates sigil magic into their methodologies. The idea that you can take, mix and match different paradigms into a ritual is also a very repeated line of thinking from the eclectic Wiccan movements. But what happened to the extreme nature of chaos magic, where are the rituals that used to shock people.

Invocation and Connection Among “Friends”

One day, I happened to be flirting with an online magician friend when she asked me to try an experiment.  The experiment was simple; try to send energy to her via IM and have her verify it.  Initially, we got tremendous results and kept pushing the boundaries of that energy play.  I have since repeated those experiments.  In each case, successful energy exchange over IM has lead to a desire for an in person meeting that, in each case, has happened.

As the energy exchange progressed, it became evident that in addition to energy, information would sometimes carry through from one person to another.  Using this idea, in multiple cases, I started experimenting with the idea of directly accessing another living person’s information and skill set.  Of course, in daily social interaction, people bounce ideas off each other all the time.  Essentially, having the input of another person often expands and mutates you via the interaction.  If the interaction took place at a much deeper level, would it expand the possibilities for both participants to mutate and change each other?

Quantum Selves: Experiencing Alternate Realities and Selves

A sample from the article published in Magick on the Edge From Immanion Press.

A few years back I was watching Star Trek one day, as well as a healthy dose of Sliders and Quantum Leap on television.· It was probably a couple years before I started magical work.· I watched as the multiple realities converged in the space/time continuum.· Thousands of Enterprises representing different possibilities appeared on the screen.· Of course, many of these possibilities represented very different realities from the show’s normal reality.· I watched and nodded with the intuitive little voice that said yep and ignored the message.· Of course, years later I would and could not so easily ignore that inner voice.· These shows loosely refer to a theory in quantum physics known as the “Other Worlds” or “Many Worlds” theory.

Basically, the many worlds theory states that any event that has multiple possibilities creates a new quantum universe for each possibility.· Stated another way, all possibilities from all choices exist somewhere in the quantum soup or matrix of possibilities.· I am not a mathematician nor a physicist but if I really struggle with the math involved I can get some basic equations completed.· The math and physics just do not inspire me. However, the idea does.· I pursued a shamanic way of thinking about quantum realities and unlike the show Sliders, threw out the notion that a magnetic destablilizer was needed to access other quantum realities.·· For a long time, I was hesitant to talk about the other worlds theory with other magicians because I could not get tangible results from the process of learning how to work with the quantum matrixes that the other world theory presents.· I have however, in the last year, been able to get real world results by figuring out ways to manipulate and use those quantum strings.

The theory was approached shamanically through deep meditations, visualizations and even vision quests.· I truly have much more work to complete, with my observations, but I was able to work backwards with the help of some recent movies to provide the ideas.·· This allowed me to provide some of the foundation steps to work with the theory that I did not have.· Of course, the most influential movie was “What the Bleep do we Know?”· While potential technically inaccurate, the movie generated tremendous hype, excitement, and enthusiasm in some of the most magically inclined individuals.· I decided to experiment with two of the more interesting characters in the movie, Dr. Quantum and Duke Reginald (aka Reggie).· Dr. Quantum is the comic book hero mentioned in the movie and Duke Reginald was the small African-American child on the unending court of possibilities.
