Disposing of Ritual RemainsSo, after you've burned a 7-day candle or otherwise finished leaving out flowers for St. Expedite or whatever else you might have done, how do you dispose of the glass containers, uneaten cakes, etc.? This goes for any ritual. Do you just toss it in the trash and take it out later? Say, "thanks, candle" fold your card up (if you used a card) and... I understand some tricks require burying/burning, etc. as part of their ritual, but for those things that don't explicitly require them...what's the preferred method? Or does it even matter?

Re: Working with Elements - Crossroads Banishing Innovation
I mentioned the nullification without the clean up. Nullifying the items banishes their power, once the power is gone I would suggest flushing the remains - it is running water after all.
Peter Carroll suggests "drowning the sigil" in terms of banishing sigil work, a technique which works well for me. I guess I am thinking in similar terms in that last statement.
However you decide destroy the ritual remains after throwing them through the doorway is irrelevant because you already nullify, and banish the power called forth with those items by throwing them through the door way (which is symbolic of the "between worlds") - allowing the items to switch dimensions and thus frequency.
Re: Working with Elements - Crossroads Banishing Innovation
Interesting yes. Not sure it'd work well for me though... First I'd wonder about the practicalities- If you mean throwing it completely through the doorway- maybe... but I know I can't just leave flowers and candle remains etc. in my doorways for purely mundane logistical reasons (ie: I'd end up tripping over them on the way out the door for work LOL) Secondly because of metaphysical reasons... I'm not sure that the doorway 'spirits' I work with would find that to be a disrespectful action on my part or not (just tossing things through their domain without so much as a "would you mind..." I tend to think they'd prefer I didn't- but perhaps if they were asked for specific things that may vary... If that makes sense? Or maybe I'm not understanding you- ?
Working with Elements - Crossroads Banishing Innovation
Working with Elements - Crossroads Banishing Innovation - Between a doorway is a nice place for ashes, flowers, or earth.
I look at it this way.
The doorway represents the between of the non-physical and physical worlds.
The "earth" you are using in a specific room or area is empowered by the ritual you cast. Throwing the empowered earth through the doorway nullifies the empowerment that the earth had in it's previous dimension of existence.
I'd like to know if you think this theory is interesting or otherwise? Always up for some learning, insight, and correlation =]
Re: Disposing of Ritual Remains
Crossroads has to do with
Eshu
Legba
Lucerio
as it were in African American traditions.....
but Hecate fits right in there too, and I personally have correspondes that I think are there betwen Hecate and Eshu. But hoodo is primarily African, and so corresponds to African Gods. Hecate fits though.
Re: Disposing of Ritual Remains
Yeah- the needles thing is a big issue if you do any amount of blood work- especially with groups... Lancets etc. pile up quickly. :?
Yeah- the trees/bushes around my place definately seem to have their preferences LOL
LOVE the idea for the oubliette-(reminds me of one of my favorite movies of course 8-) )
Re: Disposing of Ritual Remains
Hi everyone,
Do you use the symbolism of the cross roads because it is associated with Hecate Andrieh? Either way, that is a bloody brilliant place to dispose of things.
I like your tip about the Needles Solstice? I find it funny that the one bush likes the remains of the darker shit, lol. I guess we all have our interests.
Most of the time I burn things, this is a symbolic gesture which makes things final in my mind. This is best done when I have charged a sigil for a few days which I wrap up with a ritual of some sort. The burning of the sigil tends to allow my mind to absolve itself of the issue and helps with conscious deliberation.
when I enchant or bind an entity to a physical object, I just absorbe the entity and then the device becomes meaningless agian.
I have a wand which I sacrificed to the Autonomatrix egregore which I plan to burn during an evocation ritual.
A novel idea would be to save up all these artifacts and place them in an oubliette. Then on a certian day of the month, destroy them all at once as an act of banishing and new begginings for the month ahead. This is kind of like clearing the mind for the work ahead.

Depending on the ritual
The crossroads is a nice place ( any intersection)
Re: Disposing of Ritual Remains
For ritual remains that are biodegradeable, I put them outside under a tree or bush. (I have different trees I use for different disposal sites- depending on what I am disposing... Some trees seem more inclined to 'receive' some materials than others... at least in my experience.) It almost seems as if the one tree in my yard *loves* when I bring out remains from vodou ancestor offerings and other vodou rituals, while my lilac bush loves when I bring out items from more shamanic based workings. And there is one that seems to really dig the remains from some of the darker shit I do. So- I just kinda tend to put it where it 'feels' best... For items like candle glass or other non-biodegradeable material- I just toss it in the garbage. (And- of course- as the budding nurse I am- I have to remind folk- if you use lancets or other sharps or blood in your work- do dispose of it in a proper sharps container.) 8-)
