The thing that you have to get over with "Inciting results which are both "big" and important to ones needs?" is lust of result. Subconscious resistance to getting what one desires is also a benefactor but I feel that you are pretty aware that magick works, just not that it can be relied on. The only thing stopping you from inciting big change is you.

I am an advocate of the idea that it is all about what one believe one can accomplish. achievable reality is something that can be expanded upon. I believe that everything is merely a construct of the mind. I have pushed reality to the point that there is no real turning back from this belief unless I take a week long acid trip and convince myself that I made it all up. Is that the same thing though? fuck!!! There is nothing that is necessary in my mind, the world is a play ground. there are no rules and you are free to do anything. I have never clung to any idea about balance and I still achieve results.

I was having a conversation with Chaodiscordia last night and we got on the subject of positive thinking. I told him how I would walk around saying random things and experience random manifestation of the shit I was talking about earlier in the day consistantly. I came to the conclusion that this was a result of developing ability in sleight of mind during ritual. A fear developed that I might randomly manifest something which was not intended and the only practical response to this was to think positively consistantly. This led to the ever present question of whether this was enchantment or divination? In my mind it really doesnt matter either way as even divination leads to expectation which acts as a form of enchantment in its own right. I came up with the explanation that thoughts are like slow moving sigils where as drawn out forms of desire are like fast moving sigils. something to toy around with.

Anomoly: Nice!! I have found that a strong will pushes things along nicely... I haven't recorded much of my own experiences with intent, visualization, and burying intent for result but I see that it would be beneficial =P

I find though that the exact opposite of my intent is fulfilled with the intense visualization of everything that could possibly go wrong. . . This used to happen frequently in the form of disastrous negative thought consequences like necessary plans falling apart (or merely creating delays), important letters/packages seeming to get lost permanently in the mail, or expensive electronics crashing never to be used again.

My sigils seem to be working otherwise though. I keep a meaningless focus during the creation of the sigil, charge it with emotion or gesture, and put it away in a box to bury the intent. I leave the focus alone and eventually forget it. The quicker it's forgotten, the quicker results occur.

This has worked very well for small things.

I'm torn by the idea of attempting to incite bigger change according to issues I am facing in my every day life. . . is it possible to incite results which are both "big" and important to ones needs? Is there at all a process of equivalent exchange in regards to any cast or is it all about what one believes one can accomplish? So does anyone else get good results without the aid of sigils, but simply by using spell casting techniques? I use intense ideation on the desired statement of intent, than enter gnosis through inhibitory forms of trance while reciting mantras and focusing on pentagrams without consciously focusing on the desire anymore. I just did this at the secretary of state. When I arrived, the drivers liscense machine was down. I had ten numbers before me but the place was dead so it moved fast. I knew I had a short amount of time to cast a spell so I began quickly. I focused on the SOI "The liscence machine will come back on for about five minutes then switched to the meaningless mantra Zassas Zassas nasatan ada zassas for another five minutes while tracing a pentagram and focusing on a dot on the wall. right before my number was called the machine came back on. Perfect result. The people at the Secretary of state were lucky a pissed off magician came there today. lol

I often use this method and receive an excellent success rate almost close to completely reliable. I have always had a nack for empty handed techniques though as my close friends will tell you. The idea of limiting the options reality/unconscious has to just one is the best way to explain this. It seems that the secret is to forget which inhibitory trance techniques are always useful for. I have also always noticed the tendency of my thoughts to manifest a few days after they occur if not sooner depending on the amount of concentration I put into them. This is exactly why I am an advocate of positive thinking.

I like your tech, I have tried a similar method before but never persisted with it... What do you mean by all hell breaks loose?

I generally use the standard method of writing out an intention and then shaping the letters into a picture. I may create a coded message or mantra from the letters also. To create a sigil via the spontaneous drawing method, I meditate on the idea or intention I want to form a sigil about. I sit with a pad and writing utensil before me. When I achieve a concentrated state of mind—a kind of shaking trance described below-- I allow it to move my hand across the pad. I will make a scribble and do it repeatedly. Often the succession of scribbles at one sitting will resemble each other (the pattern will be similar). I analyze and clean up the scribbles so that I have the stylized sigil.

I activate a sigil by gazing at it until I shift into a concentrated, meditative state that I am familiar with from my studies in Eastern disciplines. The body may automatically tremble or form some kind of spontaneous movement or emit sound (ie, glossolalia) because changes in brain chemistry in altered states of consciousness can cause motor disinhibition. In the context of sigil charging, the intensity of focus leads briefly to an exhaustive and then clear, refreshed state that may even culminate in spontaneous laughter.

Lately, I get too attached to the picture and intention of the sigils. This, of course, is problematic and I need to find a new way to address my discipline and sigilization. I know a sigil charging as “worked” because all hell breaks out in the next day or 2 after the charging until I realize what’s going on, hang back, and laugh about it.

A couple months ago I created a new technique for creating both mantra and image sigils, I have had just as much success with this tech if not more than as with the A. Spare. Tech.

For the sake of not having a name for it... lets just call it the Chaodiscordian Tech

The Process goes as follows,

Create your statement of intent. i.e. It is my will to meet a monk

Now take your phrase and construct it into a word puzzle like fashion like so:

If the phrase is long, there is really no need to repeat it over and over again unless you see fit. Sometimes as I create the puzzle I write the letters in a random order, going in random directions... In this way, I maximize my variations of words as I continue to use this tech for other sigils.

Now As if you were doing a cross word puzzle, Find meaningless words. You can go up, down, cross ways, sideways, ALL WAYS, just draw lines through the letters so that the lines connect to form jig jagged line segments and different shapes. After you have done this pick a few of your words you have found if not all of them and turn them into your mantra. It doesn't matter how many words you choose, just so long as you feel them to be sufficient enough to form the subconscious connection.

Now for the Image sigil, Take the lines that you used to form the words. Put the different lines together to form a shape of your liking. When using this method to form the image sigil, Its best to try to let the line flow in many directions when you form your words... Otherwise your not going to have much of a variety to work with. As a shortcoming, if you perceive it to be so, the images will be very jagged and box like, in that there are no circles. But nevertheless, decorate them like an x-mas tree until they please your minds eye.

So in this method, you have abstractly associated your desire with the subconscious and it usually takes under five minutes, depending on how anal you are. By anal, I mean how tight your sphincter is rapped around perfection.

I found it much easier to create sigils using this method. When I used the a. spare. method I kept running into the same mantras and shapes. I'm sure in time I will run into the same problem with this tech after using it for a while, at least with the image aspect. However, I feel the mantra creations seem much more random and easier to cultivate. In this method I don't find it necessary to try to use all the same letters in your mantra that were in the phrase of desire either, I found that to be a bit boring and redundant. That your intent is to associate that abstract form through the creation process is all it takes to suffice.

Cool man, sounds like you have carved a little notch for yourself where concerning sigil magic. I cannot wait till I start practicing Hopkito. I need to build up strength first though through physical training. I only have ten sessions left with my trainer, so this is not far off. Through my work with the Nike invocation, I developed a form of spell casting using apples as anchors to gnosis as well as a few other bonuses. I have had good results using this method, but the whole operation takes a lot of time, so I think I might rewrite the ritual to be stealthier. the first fifteen or so times I performed it were to establish the servitor Sevitoria Lufwick, but now I merely need to invoke Nike for works of results magic and to establish a state of gnosis conducive with success. I have not had the opportunity to experiment with Nike as an aid to the war self, this is probably due to my pursuit of understanding in my daily endeavors. But I do plan on working with the Jihad of Chaos at some point in the future when I have finished the courses I am doing at present.

I and a few freinds used to do a lot of back yard bare knuckle boxing a few years ago... full out, not sparring, but still freindly... we would sometimes draw our sigils on each others foreheads... for this one, I had the people watching chant the mantra that went with my glyph... we were going for a good five minutes when I let my gaurd down, and WHAM! I remember a flash of white then being flat on my back looking at the stars (real ones at this point) not knowing what had just happened... the moment before I got knocked out the sigil was right in my vision and the crowd around us was chanting pretty intensely... damn he hit me hard!

couple nights later, I'm at the punk show... I come flying out of the mosh pit (another good place for charging sigils) and find myself lying flat on my back again... this time looking right up the mini skirt of the chick I wanted to shag, she helped me up and brought me to the bar for a shot of 151 rum, next thing you know shes biting my earlobes and grabbing my crotch telling me how sexy I look with my black eye, then pulls me into the girls washroom... and well, my sigil worked lol.... we eneded up dating for about 6 months after that, we shagged many times during that time.

wasn't the most outstanding one, but it's the most entertaining one to talk about... in fact I've used this story to get laid by other chicks quite effectivley :D

Interesting. I usually make people wipe their gloves off even after a slip, so I'm not sure I'd be the best person to use that method with.

I once considered trying to charge a sigil during that split second between when you decide to tap out (from a choke) or go unconscious, but it didn't seem like the payoff was worth it (besides, the connection between tapping/losing and sigil/not working didn't seem like it was a good thing to encourage).

Plenty of other, better ways to charge a sigil in the gym. And the wai kru is essentially a banishing ritual in and of itself.

This is a very interesting way to charge a sigil; it reminds me of the death posture a bit. Black out and sigils and all that. I had a friend push on my chest while my lungs were fully inflated and I was focusing on a sigil. i blacked out and when I came to a few seconds later I had no recall of where I was or what I had done before the black out. I would not recommend making this a regular method to charge sigils because of the risk to health. How long do you generally spar for to induce gnosis? I usually use inhibitory techniques to charge sigils but have decided to become experienced in other forms. In a few months I will begin Hapkido lessons in an attempt to begin fighting competitively. I would like to practice occult martial arts. There is a lot of possibility for Auric Magic through this practice which I hope to take advantage of. Any outstanding results you would like to share from this technique?

I street fight, have learned through friends and family various techniques but I would never call myself a master. I do go nuts when it's between my boyfriend and I :p must look funny tho little girls and little boys who are in love kicking the shit out of each other... I find that sparring helps to charge a casting (sigil or otherwise).

I like to make a mantra out of my statement of intent, then make a little 'glyph' out of it... I then draw it on my sparring partners boxing gloves with chalk (I'm a kickboxer) and go at it while chanting the mantra in my head.

I would use spirits that aid you in this, there are very powerful spirits that you can bound with, of course there are other ways too, but i like spirits because then I don't have to be on alert all the time, my Wraiths do a lot of this work because they are around 24/7... I don't have a lot of spirits in my houshold, like 20+ but they are very effective.

I use my comp and some software...

and convert the text into the picture i like... So now the picture has my intent/wish inside the pic :)

Somewhere in my recent works i awakened the persistent one, choronzon. I have been warding it off all week... Mainly I have been focusing on mundane things and retreating from magic. Especially any thoughts of the demon. I had much of my life lost to this demon in the beginning of my work and I have found the only way for me to rid of it, is to simply take a break. However last night as the demon whirled about casting its stupids I decided to try to give the demon purpose. In that moment I used random belief. I decided the demon was here to teach me a lesson... To teach me of my mistakes... So i thought of some of the mistakes that I put into my fetish... and I destroyed the fetish and its sigil.... along with any documentation of its work, this served as a sacrifice to the demon in return for my sanity. A few moments after sacrificing the fetish, I became over whelmed with euphoria and intense breathing. It almost seemed as if i had just taken a good hit of ecstasy. Though in my heart i don't believe this demon to serve any purpose to me, the belief manifested in it served as a great release. Though the demon has still been in my mind, it seems to have lost its grip. I am still however, moving in the direction of mundane thoughts until I have warded it off entirely. I have tried to banish this demon through typical banishing rituals, but it seems in every attempt to banish through a means of ritual or sigil, I only provoke it. A few nights back I gave every effort to trap it within a triangle. This meditation lasted about an hour... though I had great success during the meditation, the demon manifested later that night, three times as strong. So recalling my past, I choose to take action through non action.

I like how you cut and turn your sigils into art pieces Zero-one, that is a great idea. I drew a complete history of everything I had done magically at the age of eighteen and then gave it to a friend as a present. He was of a paranoid disposition, so he burnt it because he thought I was trying to curse him. No real harm done though.

I like to take sigils which I have written out on paper and mash them up with rock dragon’s blood incense, then use it in rituals as offerings. I have found that this has an excellent effect.

I have had a period in my life where I did tons of magic and did not record any of the results; I would recommend everyone keep a journal just for sake of remembering past success and as a goad to future success.

I like the symbolism you have used in charging your sigils Chaosdiscordia, this makes good sense. You seem to have mapped the manifestation of the sigil out symbolically. Have you thought about ensigilizing this concept to use as a way to block conscious awareness? How have you charged your fetish? Sex? Hunger? sleeplessness? focused concentration for days on end? Tell me!!!

I was shown some Reiki techniques in dream last night, very cool stuff although it caused me to contemplate paradigms quite a bit in the dream. A small skinny black haired girl taught it to me. This happened after switching up my breathing patterns during meditation with one which I found in Andrieh's book. I used Hermetic-style breathing this time which gave me quite the head rush.

Again excellent. You express yourself well. I use similar techniques. I usually feel strange about sharing haha but in terms of the burning for complete destruction, I use drowning for sigils that are only going to cause problems to me - confusion. I made a sigil once out of anger and I didn't want that one to be a part of my life *at all* so I ripped it up into tiny pieces, gathered the pieces, and sprinkled them into the toilet. Sprinkling them slowly represents my letting go of the created sigil, saying goodbye, and watching it fall into the river Styx.

Flushing the toilet is reminiscent of both A.V. and Peter Carroll, where A.V.'s got that bit about excrements removing stress (haha!) and Carroll mentions running water. Your mention of aether is very important to me as well. Sex/creation, Death/destruction is exactly the paradigm I work with consistently, though not working on a fetish I do use sex with my partner as a charge for whatever I am working on, or the death of what I am working on. Right now I have sigils on the go that represent continuous pieces of my life and my self awareness. There job won't be done until I am I done working on them. When I have them colored, signed, and scanned, they are complete but this is a process as I meditate nightly and only work on pieces at a time. This represents a slow climax to achieving the goal. I keep the goal behind me while working on every day things and continuous "nothing."

I will charge my sigils by staring at them on orgasm, and kill them by closing my eyes to the image when on orgasm.

Your technique of putting them "away" and using them later also applies to my method as after the signing, I will hang the piece for a while. When I get confused, I will put it back in my sketchbook which, when closed, is "turned off." I will have some sigils on for a time and trade one or two for another two :p

As for the journal, I am only now starting to keep a full record of my progress in dreams and working. Most of my writing is in blogging and forums as I like to have sharing of ideas when it comes to chaos. Alot of people are lucky that they have groups to work in but where I live, it's hard to find anyone who understands this stuff so it is good to get insight from people who know what this is like.

to comment on this thread i would like to first mention I have used Anomaly's empty handed technique with success... I thought of the first picture that came to mind when i thought of my phrase of intent... it was that of the dream works logo... I visualized it a few nights before sleeping... on the third or fourth attempt i got great results... the phrase of intent was "to have a lucid dream"... the result was... having a great lucid dream... being fully aware of my dream and my abilities to control it. It had been over a year sense i had such a great lucid dream.

To further add to the discussion i would like to comment on what to do with sigils after they have been charged... for the most part I burn them, along with the mantra associated with them at the end of a ritual... i use a symbolic gesture in doing so... i always burn them in something that symbolizes the aether to me... lately i have been working with a fetish i created, involving sex, death and neither.... the charging of the symbol represents sex/creation... and the destruction of it represents death/destruction. In this process the rite symbolizes reincarnation... the sigil is born only to die... and then be born again as result in the material realm.

Also, I started keeping a diary of my work. I take a picture of the sigil with my phone and copy into word pad... i keep separate documents... one for its exact purpose, need i reference it... and one with just the sigil alone, so if need be I can recharge it again at a later time with out bringing its purpose into my mind.

I've found it to be of great importance to destroy sigils entirely if they may confuse my will at a later time... for example a sigil made for entering a new relationship might be great for the time... but if you find the girl of your dreams and charge it again , unaware of its intent, may produce some unwanted results ... Where as sigils created for purposes i can always use... suck as luck... I keep around, knowing that their purpose cant do me any harm.

Sigils are the biggest part of what I do. I take a very Grant Morrison-ian approach to sigil casting in that I use them, and other aspects of chaos magick, in my projects. The last sigil I did worked INCREDIBLY well, I'm talking one minute no money no job and the next having a "title" in an office building.

For me this is a many step sigil. . .

1. Words
2. Manipulation of words into mantra, repeated consistently for twenty minute meditation.
3. Pictoral words measured and placed with protractor set.
(here's where I got my job, when I first started coloring the piece)
4. Coloring and turning into art piece - the step I am on now. . . and I will banish it when I am fully satisfied with the current employment opportunity by signing the sigil itself in my real name. Using my real name is a physical way of saying "I'm out of my magick zone, and so is this sigil."

I like experimenting with new ways to charge sigils. My most recent endeavor revolves around using visual associations as sigils instead of the word method in order to develop an empty handed sigil technique. In order to demonstrate this technique, we will use the short statement of intent, “Manifest money.” The words become associated with the first visual which pops into your head so that the level of conscious awareness does not reach a fervent pitch. The word money becomes associated with honey and then a buzzing bee hive becomes the visual. The word manifest comes to mind as a water droplet dripping into a pond and causing ripples. If we combine the two, we have honey dripping off of a bee hive into a honey pond. We could use honey pond as a mantra if desired, but for the performance of this technique we do not need to.

The idea to develop a Alphabet of desire through this method has crossed my mind, but the ritual needs more experimentation.

Now that we have our visual representations of desire, we still need a method to charge these in an off handed way; I use paradox contemplation as a gateway to gnosis and banishing. For the sake of entering gnosis, I use the emergence paradox and trace evolution back far enough that I enter a trance and then allow the visualization of devolving animals to culminate with my visual representation of desire, ergo, the honey pond.

Immediately after this visualization, I begin to contemplate the liar’s paradox. This paradox centers around the statement, “I have told only lies.” I can not stress this method, I immediately become absorbed into this paradox, and it acts as a very useful banishing tool. After I have contemplated this paradox, I move to neither/neither of truth and falsity. The liar’s paradox leads in to the neither/neither technique perfectly.

I wrote this rite as a means to discover a reliable mental ritual for empty handed sigil techniques. In addition, I have always had a healthy curiosity about using confusion and paradox as gnosis. I have received a good result using the above mentioned visual sigil only a day after performing it for the first time. I found five dollars on the group twice in a five hour period after performing this ritual. A magician friend of mine performed the rite with the intent of lucid dreaming and received a result that night.

The main point of this ritual is stealth. It can be performed without the knowledge of others in a room full of people and does not require anything except the imagination. Remember to remain void of thought whilst performing it.

Aside from this, I make two sigils a week to strengthen my abilities with them. Most of the time, I use sound and image concentration to charge the sigil then follow up with a mass of chaos or the ritual mentioned above. I use the mass with extremely important sigils. I sometimes practice not thinking and object concentration against sigils and have received good results doing so. I have found its best to destroy a sigil in some certain way to establish that you have finished working with it. This brings closure to the relationship with the sigil and allows the mind to not think about it any longer. Burning seems to be my favorite method. Just tonight; I tore one up, mixed it with some dragon’s blood powder and sent it on its way.

What I do is enter a relaxed state where I am breathing deeply. I will Focus on the sigil while I am breathing and I will stretch my breath out longer and longer until I am actually holding my breath in until I feel like I am going to pass out. Next I exhale but I do not inhale for as long as I can stand it. I really becomes impossible to think during this. During all of this I do not let my vision waver from the sigil and I keep it in clear focus. That's what I do.

Once you've charged the sigil, the physical representation becomes essentially worthless, so you can just throw it out, burn it, shred them, etc.

If you enjoy hanging on to them, no problem. It might be possible to work them into a later ritual. Hm, will have to think about that.

I just started doing sigils recently. My test was "IT IS MY WILL TO SEE A WHITE WOMAN WITH DREAD LOCKS". Not something I would normally see. I drew my sigil along with some other sigils then waited a few days and empowered them. About a week and half later my daughter and I are watching classic music videos and there she was in an 80's band I had never heard of. My white woman with dread locks. I empowered these by using my breath, almost passing out.

My only question is:
What do you do with the sigil after you empower it?
Someone help me out with this.

I have made several of them and I have given them to my "Wind Lord" to guard for me. He is an entity I created to do little jobs for me. He likes watching over them but they could pile up.

Do you find that repeating the same methods loses effectiveness after awhile and you need to switch it up to start seeing results again? Kinda 'freshening up' the methodology, as it were?

Using the formula in MMM has never failed. However, there are several other possibilities. Ray Sherwin and Frater U.D. have books on the subject, and I'm sure there are others. I don't have a specific formula that I feel is the only method to make sigils, but I have specific methods that I tend to use for sake of maximizing efficiency or simple comfort and reliability.

Nothing particularly interesting, just the oldie-but-goodie Spare method.

I will say that one thing I've found to be tremendously helpful was to create the sigils while slightly distracted - written on the train, while in bed/right before falling asleep and under time constraints. It's happened that some of those sigils manifested their results without being properly charged/fired off and sometimes even a few hours later (i.e. not enough time to even forget the intent). Conversely, holding them for longer periods of time (weeks to a month) hasn't had very good results. Nor has writing up several to be fired off in succession proved to be useful.

My workflow seems to work best as:

Sigilize

Wait a day or two (no more than a week)

Has sigil's intent manifested? Is not, fire off sigil

Next sigil

Successful sigils breed more successful sigils (both "more" in quantity and "more" in scope). So constantly having a sigil in the works definitely helps.

The dancing method seems very fun- Andrieh mentions a story about that in HOCM- that's one I want to work more with too. Along that line I'm playing a bit with sigilizing variations on yoga positions. (kinda similar to dancing anyway- and requires less rhythm- which is good for me LOL! :lol: ).

I'm a fan of the words-to-nonsense to sigil method. Drawing seems to move from the right brain words/intent to the left brain (or is it the other way around?) which can help cause the conscious to forget what the intent was even while you're drawing it. Since the pictorial method already starts out abstracted (which may be because of my lack of drawing skills), I don't like it as much - not as much of a separation of intent and execution. I've not tried the dancing sigils out method, but will have to give that a go one of these days.
