Symbols- necessary or open to interpretation?

Do you use the symbols as taught, or do you use your own (versions or something new alltogether) or do you scrap them completely? 8-) How have you found your way to affect your practice? What results do you see as far as how symbolic interaction affects your practice?

Yes, although the efficiency of my own or the base symbols fluctuates based on my mood or mental awareness at the time. Sometimes I'm better using no symbols, sometimes the base symbols work best, and sometimes I accidentally alter them when drawing them with my mind and that works. I usually will try to combine different symbols that mean the same thing to me in order to make sure I get the connection I need for that moment. I haven't practiced Reiki very much lately however, I really should get back into it.

:) That makes sense- thanks for the answer :)

Re: Symbols- necessary or open to interpretation?

Have you (or, have you ever) noticed a difference in use of symbols- between the 'feel' or effectiveness of using your own versus using traditional?

Re: Symbols- necessary or open to interpretation?

Certainly open to interpretation.

The Reiki symbols provided are a base, of which can be altered any way the practitioner wishes. The symbols are only there to help you make the connection to the Reiki energy, so if you relate a certain symbol better than the base ones, by all means use that instead. The main goal in Reiki is to connect to the energy, and allow it to flow through you without resistance.

I tend to mix healing methods with Reiki, I'm a chaote so I do things as I feel most comfortable with at the time.

I think thats the best advice, do what feels right to you. Whether that be the base symbols or your own.
